GOLF COURSES

A. Decide what type of project it will be.

Our project is about beginner’s golf courses through visiting different golf courses in Toronto and GTA.

B. Determine what you need to find out about the pair and make notes.

Could you please tell me when they will available?
They will available next summer 2010 during the week.
Would you mind if I ask how much they expect to paid for the course?
I think that they expect to pay 60 per hour.
I need to find out what kind of sponsorship they are looking for?
Maybe they need to get a Golf town as a sponsorship for this project.
I wonder if you could tell me what kind of hours they are willing to put in.
For this kind of course we suggest around 5 hours per week

C. Review/discuss your information need at pre-interview meeting.
We will have to ask why these courses are for beginners.
Remember to ask where we are going to find our new students.
Don’t forget to explain how the sponsorship works.
I will tell them that the price include the transportation to different courses.

D. Interview your candidates and takes notes
Pardon me, may I ask you what handicap do you have?
Excuse me; I was wondering if you can help me to recommend me a friend to take these courses.
Would you mind telling me how much money are you available to pay for these courses?

TEQUILA

David told me that tequila was producing by agave plants. Also, he said that there were four different types of tequilas, white, añejo, reposado and mezcal. He explained me that the mezcal has been increasing its price due to tourism demand. But, he said mezcal was cheaper than the others types of tequilas. Tequila has gotten importance in liqueur market and I did not realize that tequila was gaining importance. Finally, I asked him if he was bringing some sample of tequila but he apologized for no bringing it because it is forbidden at the university but he invited me to drink in a Mexican party next week.

Richard

Two days ago, I met Richard in the library after the TOEIC exam. We talked about our life and turning points. It was really interesting time, because I could more detailedly know about my friend Richard and his life. He was very good listener and storyteller, so I could interview very comfortably. This story is about him. I'd like to invite you in his story.

Lee, Yi An is his original name that he has. He was born in Hsin Chu city, Taiwan, in 1980. When he had a birth, He was only son and last member of his family which inclcluded grand mother, father, mother, and sister. when he was 3 years old, His family had moved only one time from Hsin Chu City to Tao Yuan County. At that time, he was so young, so he couldn't remember exactly. He had active hobbies. He liked to play baseball, bowling, and computer games.

Let me talk about his turning points. As I told you already, Richard had an older sister who is very samrt and clever. He said that by the time he was young, however, she was a factor of his stress. She studied very well. Even, whenever she had an exam, she always got the first grade. He was usually compared with his sister, so he got big stress from study when he was young. I think that was a reason, he had less interesting to study at that time. In Tiwan, only 10% of junior highschool student could enter the public senior highschool, but because of his grade was not very well, he couldn't enter the public senior highschool.

Instead of the public senior highschool, He chose the training college. He studied about computer science in the training college, but when he was forth grade, he thought that if he would graduate only this school, his academic background was not enough to get a job whitch he want. Lichard decided to go to university. Entering the university was very difficult in Tiwan. Only 5% of training college student could join the university. He studied very very hard, and finally he could pass the exam for entering the university. Lichard steped up close to his goal. It was first turning point of him.

I think almost people who took military service learn something important for them from the military, because that is specific experience, and hard time. As other Tiwan gays, after he graduated university, he had to join the military service. Lichard chose the different way than the other guys, and joined a reserve officer exam. He passed the exam, and than he became resorve officer. He handled people. Because of he worked in a regiment, he had to response so many people. He solved peoples problem, and made plan to support other soldier. It was hard time to him. He suffered from heavy stress, but by the time he learned how to arrange the much task, and how to handle about people. It was his second terning point.

He wanted to become a consultant, even though his major was different. If he had opportunity, he wanted to work in foriegn company in Taiwan. That's why, he is studying English here now. I think he is very sincere person, and he has good attitude, so I believe he is going to get his dream. I wish his success.

Interview: All about the lovely Ai Masuda

Ai Masuda is japanese born in Shiga on 21st of September 1982. Shiga is a beautiful city in the middle of Japan. There is a big lake in the center of this prefecture. Sometimes she swam there.
The meaning of her name is LOVE! Her parents chose her name because they wanted everybody loves her too much. In fact she is amazing and maybe the name helped.

She has two brothers and they are in Japan at that moment. The oldest has a license to be snowboarding instructor because when he finished the high school he decided to go to the mountains during a year to improve and learn all about this sport. Nowadays he works in a factory doing something totally different: make machines to construct cars! The youngest don't have a exiting life yet, he is a student and his major is low.

We talked about her family and them I asked about her work life. I was impressed! She is a financial bank officer and sells investment trusts. When she was between the ages of 21 and 22 years old, she had a part-time job at a real estate company as an office clerk. That was her first experience to get a job in a society. She had another part-time job before but she felt that work in a society is a big responsibility. At that time she learned a lot about jobs and the activities in a company. For example, she learned how to write a paper, greet older person, them she chose a banker. The hard part is that she works in Osaka. Osaka is often dubbed the second city of Japan and was historically the commercial capital of Japan, so it's important place for her business. Well, she wake up at 5 am, goes to the train station and arrived at bank at 8 am. She works until 10 pm every day and have to take the train back/again for 2 hours! I said that she have to move to Osaka, because this routine is stressful. She said that she is always tired but she don't want move because her parents support her and she doesn't have to wash clothes, make dinner, supermarket and etc. It's a good excuse, I said!
At that time I decided don't talk about her particular life to don't disturb her time here in Canada.

The moment he turned to 21 years, he went to the military service and It was the first turning point of his life like the most of the Korean guys. Before he did the military service, he didn't know what he wanted to do in the rest of his life. By the time he worked in army, he thougt many times about his life and his future. The most important regret of his life is that he should have traveled to the other cities in Korea.

My Student - Bob

We were short one pair for this activity so that I had to interview Bob. I asked Bob, whose real name is Lee Young Chung, a few questions. In high school, he had to study many many subjects. He studied these subjects to get into his university. His university is called Shun Chin University and it is in Korea.

Before he took his entrance exams, he studied mathematics, science and natural history. His favorite was mathematics. As soon as he finished his studies, he entered this university. If he had studied just a little harder, he would have been able to get into a better university in Seoul, but that is life.

Up to that point in his life, he had never studied so hard. Thinking back to middle school, where he had not been an excellent student, he wishes that he had had better marks. Before I entered high school, I did not get very high scores. He had not been so interested in his studies.

He always liked to play computer games on his computer. He liked soccer alot and played a defensive middle field position. "I would have entered the most famous university in Seoul, if I hadnt played so many games.", Bob said.

You can improve your English skills by speaking, reading newspapers, listening to American movies, and just listening more. At first, he couldn't understand alot that was said in class. By the time he had been here for a couple of weeks, things improved for him.

He has a good friend in Korea who recently proved the importance of friendship. He got sick. As soon as he heard that he was not feeling well, he started to visit Bob every day. After school, he would bring him food. Although he did not know how to cook, he bought prepared food which was delicious.

He plans to start a business providing networking solutions to companies. He likes Canada and wishes he had more money to spend. If he was given the chance, he would like to stay in Canada.

A Short Biography of Mark teacher

My Teacher Mark!

Do you know him well? If you don’t know him then this will help satisfy your curiosity. So let's start getting to know Mark.

Mark was born in 1957 in Montreal, Canada. His father was also born on the same street. When he was 10, he who had one sister and one brother was oldest. In 1967 his families moved to Burlington, Canada and he finished first grade. He grew up there until he was 13. The moment he was turning up 13 one day,his father told him they had to move to Vancouver, British Canada. When he was 14, he had serious problems because the last brother was born. That’s why he had to help his mother. As soon as the brother turned up 1 year old, they were going to move in Europe again.

His turning point was when he was 15. He entered at Copenhagen International School. He told me that there were a lot of turning point when he lived in Copenhagen. He visited a lot of countries, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, France and Italy. That’s why his father sold road construction equipment so that he could have a wealth of experience with many countries.

The story of Eddy

I got a task from my teacher to write something about your classmate. My partner was Eddy, who is a young sporty Korean guy. I mention sports because, all the hobbies that he told me are related to sport; table tennis, soccer; and basketball, etc...

However, we went to library after school and had an interview for each other. We had to find out more details before writing. From now on, I would like to introduce this nice guy Eddy as I have known.

KIM DAE SUB is the Korean name of Eddy. He was born on 1 Jun 1984 in Seoul city, by the time there were seven members in his family, included grand-grandmother, grandparents, parents, and his brother. His family had ever transferred three times, but he couldn't remember the detail things because he was very young.

During the interview, I could feel he treasured his family very much, and always kept good relationship with all family members. He has a nice brother who older than Eddy just one year, Eddy learned lots of things from his brother. Seemed it's a really nice family. Unfortunately, his grand-grandmother passed away by the time he was sixth grades at elementary school. Eddy got shocked and felt upset, because his grand-grandmother took care of him carefully and nicely, even he slept with his grand-grandmother until she gone. However, Eddy was aware of how precious the family to him! He said that was the first turning point of his life.

Let's talk about his career of studied. Eddy got good grades when he studied at elementary and junior high school, because his mother is an elementary school teacher and always pushed him study hard. Pressures and punishments are the only things he could remember during that period.

After Eddy graduated from junior high school, he went to senior high school smoothly. But he didn't study very well, because he spent lots of time to hang out with friends. The grade of senior high school would influence which level of university you could go, so his parents worried about that.

However, he felt happy and had lots of beautiful memories during this period, even the grade is not very well. To deserve to be mentioned, by the time Eddy studied at third grade of senior high school, he was interested in a new subject named commercial trade. He liked to do research of the subject and always got high grades in this class. Furthermore, he found out the direction of his major in university. I thought this could be the second turning point.

Eddy also had a great time after he entered university to study commercial trade, although he didn't get the scholarship because of he played too hard. However, he made a lot of best friends in the beginning of university.

By the time he finished the courses of sophomore, he paused the semester and entered Military service to finish his duty. He didn't want to go to Military service after he graduated from university, just like the most Korean man did. Luckily, Eddy was assigned to a rear-service department of the Army and had responsibility to manage a warehouse, the task just matched with his major things. He learned lots of things from it, for instance: how to manage goods, materials, and equipment. Therefore, he thought it's a very useful and great period. Of course, this is the third turning point for him.

After Eddy discharged from Army, he met some classmates who had already graduated from university. Even they studied very hard during four years of university, but found out a good and suitable job still was very difficult to them because of the poor English ability. After that, Eddy was just aware of the importance of English. So he didn't go back to university directly but getting started his English learning journey. He went to the Philippines for three months , after that he arrived Toronto to continue his English learning. The forth turning point of his career.

Eddy want to enhance English ability and enlarges his horizon during the time he stayed in Canada, because that could help him to get job in a trade company after goes back to Korea. Just like most of man wanted, Eddy hopes someday he could become a CEO of big corporation. Good luck to him!

Would you rather practice Yoga or study Spanish?

There are many kinds of schools in Toronto and they are not very expensive to start learning. If I took the same class in Japan,it would be more expensive than in Toronto. I thought that it was a really good chance for me to study something and to make friends,so if I was really interested in these school,I would have gone to take the class.

Now,I'm interested in Yoga. Yoga can help relaw myself and keep my body healthy. I'm also interested in Spanish, because my classmates speak Spanish and my roommate comes from Chile. She always tells me about her country,so Iwant to know her language and culture.

Yoga class which is named "breathe" is in 2253 Bloor st,west. It's just west of Runnymede subway station. I went there to get information last Thursday. The class had already begun,so I had to wait there a few minutes to open the door. I thought that it was weird. After the door opened,I asked the staff why you would close the door. She answered that Yoga was a very spiritual exercise, and I needed to focus on my own. That's why they closed the door while they had a class.

They have 6 kinds of Yoga,Ashtanga Yoga,Hatha flow Yoga,Iyengr Yoga,Restorative Yoga,Core Yoga and Yoga for runners,so I asked her which the best was for beginner. She recommeded me an Ashtanga Yoga beginner's level which was a style of Yoga in India. It was traditional Yoga style,so students who were completely new to start practinig could learn the fundamentals. I also asked her if I started to learn Yoga, was there something to know before attending the class. She said to me below 4 points.
1. I have to arrive 10 or 15 minutes before the class.
2. I don't have to eat at least 3 hours before the class, because Yoga used a full stomach.
3. If I had a experienced a serious injury or had serious chronic health problems,I would have to check with my doctor before beginning to practiceYoga.
4. If I take the Yoga class,I should attend the class once or twice a week at least, because Yoga was most beneficial when practiced regularly and I also had to practice in my house almost everyday.
They have many kinds of fees,I could buy a one month pass,it cost $110,but just one time is $12.

George Brown the Toronto City collage which has 4 campuses in Toronto was 160 Kendalane at Dupont subway station. They have a lot of classes, only in the subject areas, we can learn 10 languages,AmericanSign language,Chinese,French,German,Greek,Italian,Japanese,Portuguese,Russian and Spanish. Spanish courses have 3 levels. I asked the information staff whether I could taken a beginner I course. She said to me that this course is an introduction to Spanish language and Hispanic heritage. The class involves a balanced approach to language acquisition and cultural awareness,so I should take this course.

Before I went to the school,I would check their website. It has already begun, so I asked her when the next course will start. She said to me that the next course's schedule will be decided by the middle of July,so I have to check their website. If I take the class,I can sign up for them on the website. It cost about $200,and 30 hours Monday after school.

I'm interested in both of them,so Iwill check the schedule and buy a Yoga mat or Spanish dictionary.

Yoga and Filates

I came to Canada for studying English. English is important for my life, but as we know, only studying English is the work which is tired and too bored. I need to make my life enjoyable. That's why, I am looking for interesting things to do is for my extra time. People usually find these pleasures through hobby or learning something. I think Canada has good system about that. There are many community centers and clubs in Canada, so pepole can contact them easily.

My hobby is playing many other kinds of sports, but this time, I researched about Yoga and Pilates. When I played sports like soccer and swimming, I felt I don't have pliability. I also needed right posture of body, so Yoga and Pilates was attractive to me.

When I looked for community center, around people recommend me to go YMCA. They said YMCA is cheaper than any other center, and facility is not bad comparatively. I visited to Metro-central YMCA which was near the Wellesley subway station. It was smaller than my thought, but when I entered to inside, my thinking was changed. There were nice facilities. People were swimming and playing some sports like basket ball. I went to front desk, and I asked about Yoga and Filates programs. Manager gave me information about their program kindly.

They had Yoga and filates programs, but I couldn't choose only two programs because they had mambership system. If I want to learn something or want to use YMCA facilities, I had to make mambership. It included everything. I just needed to sign up about program what I want. I could sign up Yoga class and Filates class. Only first time, I could experience for free, but adult general mambership fee was $56.18 including tex per month. There was joining fee for first time member, but I didn't need to pay joining fee because I was full time student.

Excepting holyday, They had have Yoga class. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, they had Filates class. I asked about between Yoga and Filates. She said Yoga was more focused physical than Filates. In Yoga class, people could learn method of meditation and stretching. Filates was focused body. In Filates class, I could learn pliability and I could increase power of muscles.
Learning is important to person, because we can improve our life to better, and we can make our life being happy.

FITNESS CLUB AND SPANISH CENTRE

For the Journal of this week I had to visit two different places that the people could take courses for their extra time. The first place that I wanted to visit was a Gym because I used to do physical exercise and training in Caracas and I want to do the same here in Toronto, so I went to Yonge Street Fitness Club that was near to our School. In the place it was complicated to go inside the club because the receptionist did not want to give me the information and an access to the gym until I brought her my personal information for an insurance that I couldn’t understand. After that I went inside the place and I talked with a Club’s Sales Representative who described me about the programs and the prices for the packages for the membership of the gym.

The program of the club included a Cardio Theatre with treadmills, lifecycles and recumbent bikes, a Free personalized programs and fitness consultations every two months, a Free Yoga classes, Pilates, Spinning, Step and Stretch, etc, a Tons of free weights and machines and a Nutritional Consultant. And the prizes were between $44 and $ 100 per month depends of the long of the contract.

For my second experience I was interested to visit a place where the people could learn about the Latin-American’s culture. Last Thursday, when I was in the subway to return home, I read an advertising of a school with the name Spanish Centre that offered salsa’s classes and I took the telephone number for do the investigation. Last Friday, I visited the place where a person told me about the courses that the people could take in the School, he explained me about the courses of Spanish, the classes of Salsa and the classes of Tango. For the courses of Spanish, they offered courses during mornings, evenings and Saturdays, and the person could choose to take most courses either once a week or twice a week, while for those interested in a more intensive program, It was possible a three day a week courses, the prizes of the courses were between $100 and $285 depends of the program’s intensive. For the Dance Courses, the school offered a program of 5 week of duration with a one class of an hour a week and the prizes were between $ 70 and $120.

Based in my experience I would prefer to go to the fitness club to take the classes of salsa because in first place In Venezuela I will have the possibility to learn to dance salsa for a lower price and in second place I think that by joining in the fitness club I can go there every day and maintain my body active and trained as I had been doing in Caracas.

If you need to get more information you will visit these two websites

Learing from something

I am a high school student now and I will enter university. The general people don’t study after they graduate a university. Even if the studying is what they love to do; for example, martial arts, yoga, and computer and so on, they may not take courses. However we could study from these kinds of schools. If I took courses in Toronto, I would attend soccer and flight school. I would like to introduce my journal.

I think flying in the sky is everyone’s dream. I would like to be a pilot as my job. After I graduate university I will take an employment test of airlines. I also would take a private airplane license so I decide to attend flight school. The school I attend is Canadian Flyers Inc. This school is located on Toronto City Centre Airport which is very close from center of Toronto city. Private License is most common type of license. If I took this license, I could take my family or friends to vacations. I asked information desk about private license. He answered most students come here want to take private license. However I am not Canadian so I have to meet some requirements. Requirements are that students can speak, read, write and understand English. If they are attending schools whose first language is English, they don’t need evidence. If they are not, they have to have a score of at least 500 on the TOEFL. Also they document which shows they could pay fees. To have the license we have to finish at least 40 hours ground instruction which is subject and we could fly by using simulation flight. The thing I most interested in is fees. The fees depend on type. Most expensive type costs $255. Also there is cost of instructors. It costs from 50 to $65. I noticed taking the license take a lot if money.

I also interested in playing soccer. I belong high school’s soccer team. I would like to continue soccer after I enter a university. Playing soccer is my hobby so I searched about Carlos Rivas Soccer School. It is located at Vaughan so I cannot go there to talk them so I checked their web site. Carlos Rivas is a famous player in Chile. When he played in Copa America in 1979, he was a finalist. I am playing as a goalie so I checked their goalie coaching. They have expert coaches which my school doesn’t have. They could do coaching following things; ball handling, shot stopping and position techniques. Now I am attending summer school so I cannot play soccer and I really want to play it. Cost is that participation in summer camp which is 4 days long costs $170. I think this is very cheap and easy to participate.

I really want to learn something even if I will be an adult. We could learn a lot of things which is very good and I want to have much knowledge. Have a fun rest of your life. The studying keeps continuing.

Continuous Education of Toronto City Hall

Welfare System is one thing I impressed since I came to Canada, especial in public system of Continuous Education. This time, I would like to introduce some public sport courses that held by Toronto City Hall. In fact, I went to two places to gather information, so I would divide the journal into two parts.

I got an assignment from teacher that related to find out some courses information from education institute or public organization. I thought about which kind of course is interesting since I heard the journal, and three answers emerged from my brain; They're ski, photographic, and ball games. That's the way I was going to surf on Internet and tried to find some resources out.

Fortunately, two institutes provided some courses that I was looking for, one is Toronto District School Board (short called for TDSB), and the other one is Toronto City Hall. Seemed TDSB provided lots of interesting activity, for instance Photographic, Skate and some ball games. But the problem is, they only provided the course list of spring period on the Internet. Therefore, I decided to gather further information from their office.

The headquarter of TDSB is located on west side of Toronto (2 Trethewey Drive), not close to downtown. When I arrived the building of TDSB, I was wondering why they only had a few people around there, not as busy as PGIC. Followed the sign, I found the office of continuous education. The secretary seemed a little bit surprised when she saw me. May I help you? She asked. Yes please, I want to know some courses information during summer period of continuous education. I told her the purpose why I came here. I'm sorry, but we only have ESL program during summer time. Unfortunately, the quota of enroll is full, so you've to wait until fall. She said. How about the information about fall period? I just want to get some information. I'm sorry, the plan of fall period isn't finished yet. She answered. I was shocked by the answer, because I couldn't get anything from here but a introduction of ESL program. Had a phone call before you go to a place is the only thing I learned from this school.

After that, I changed the destination to a Community Centre that near my homestay named by Matty Eckler CRC. Maybe I could find out some courses from here that's held by Toronto City Hall. I hope at that time. Entered the Matty Eckler Centre, I walked toward the information counter. Could you please give me some informations of continuous education of this centre? I asked him first. I'm sorry, all the informations are included in FUN GUIDE, but we don't have a copy one for you. What kind of course are you interested in? I could show you right now on Web Site. He explained the problem to me. I want to know Ski, Skate, or some ball games courses. I asked. We don't have Ski or Skate course during summer time because of the weather, but there are some ball game courses you could join. We've Basketball, Badminton, Ball Hockey, etc... He answered. Seemed Hockey and Badminton are interesting, how about the fees and schedules? I wanted to get some further information. Ball Hockey class would be started from 4 July, and Badminton class is scheduled on 7 July. Both of the classes are once a week, and two hours of each time. You just need to pay CA$2.50 per class when you come. If you think you would come to class regularly, you could consider about the following payment options. For example, if you pay CA$150 to buy an one year passport, you could come here whenever you want and no more charges. He described the rules and showed me five kind of payment packages.

Checked the information again, I told him I would consider about that and thanks for him, then I left the Community Centre. It's a pity that they don't offer baseball activity, or I would join them. If I have to make a choice, I would rather choose Ball Hockey class than Badminton. Because Badminton is a popular sport in Taiwan already, but it's not easy to play Hockey in my country. I think that's a chance to learn these kind of sports in North America. However, I was impressed by the Continuous Education they provided. You don't need to pay too much money, then you could learn lots of different things outside from school. If you're interested in these courses, come to get further information as following link.

Swimming and Squash courses...

I got a homework to research two courses that I want to learn in Toronto. Most men like sport, I am also one of them. I decided to research swimming and squash courses. Because my friend had asked me to learn swimming in YMCA on last week, I have already known which pool is cheap and nice.

I went to YMCA near the Bayview TTC station on last Friday. I asked manager some questions and got a brochure, and than I was looking around swimming pool and shower bath. If I want to swim, I have to sing up YMCA membership. YMCA membership offers many things.
1. 6line 25meter pool and hydraulic lift training pool
2. Full size gymnasium
3. Dance Studio
4. Group fitness classes including: Step, Boxfit, Muscle, Works, Yoga, Tai Chi amd more more
5. indoor walking/running track
6. Stretching areas
7. Cyclefit Studio
8. Personal training

I can use pool a day and sing up membership a month. Adult day Pass costs $14 a day. Adult general membership costs $56.18(with GST) a month. I thought to sing up membership is cheaper than to cost each day. I can use pool from 6a.m to 11p.m on Monday to Friday. It is opened pool 7a.m on Saturday and Sunday(including holiday). It is possible to lesson swimming.
If I need to deactivate YMCA membership, I have to notice until 10days.

After finishing research YMCA, I went to the Dunfield culb at Eglinton. A manager said "If you want to get some information about our club ,you should draw up your name and address and phone number". I could get information after drawing up something about me. Should I want to learn sqaush, I have to sing up membership. It was similar to YMCA. Adult membership costs $88 a month. If I am student, I can cost $169 for 3months. It has special promotion, so called "student fee". Promotion system always changes each month. YMCA hasn't special promotion system.

Membership offers squash court as well as gymnasium and Yoga. There are 40 trainer, but squash trainer is just four. There are four squash courts, I can use anything when it is unoccupied and I can use squash racket in free. I can use court from 7a.m to 8:30p.m. If I want to refund, I have to notice until 10days.

It is different to promotion system between YMCA and The Dunfield club. If I want to learn swimming or squash, I have to sign up membership in both clubs. I can use just pool or squash court , I don't need to sign up membership in Korea. I don't konw which way is better, but I am in Canada now and I have to sign up membership in order to use pool or squash court. That is my point.

My experience about Yo-ga class

I decided to learn Yo-ga. I hadn't decied the other one yet so that I wanted more information. You can ask me why you want to learn Yo-ga which is not common for man. When I was in India, I had done it for three months. The exercise made me that lead to spiritual ease and keep one's health. I could have learned the more things if I'd had enough time. I would like to learn it again.

After the school, I went to the library, is located on near the Bloor-Yonge station, that is why Karen teacher said there was lots of information. As soon as I reached, I asked a worker the information where it get, etc. She just gave me a schedule of the library. I was disappointed with the answer which just shows time to learn english. The moment I wanted to see some posted information on a wall, I noticed that the person could give me the information that I want. When I approached her, she smiled to see me. She looked like an angel of mercy. She gave me much information very kindly. She recommend YMCA as the place.

The following day, I visited to YMCA and I asked a person who was like a conductor to lead me to Yo-ga class. When I got into the class, I felt a little disappointed. I thought there were a lot of people before I entered there because Yo-ga is very popular exercise in Korea and India ,so there were a lot of Yo-ga classes and many people who wanted to learn it. By the way, there were a few people in the class. Anyway, I took part in the Yo-ga class. I did it after a long interval ,so it was difficult to me at first, but soon got used to do it. While playing Yo-ga, I found different thing between Indian Yo-ga and Canadian's. Though Indian's has various motions, their motions are so classical, while the motions in this class was suitable to Westerners' constitution. So it left something to be desired to me. After finishing class, I felt somewhat better.

Having dinner, I told my japanese friend who lives at same house I'd like to join the Yo-ga class together but he didn't answer to my proposal. Frankly, speaking he seemed to be a little annoyed about the exercising. So I didn't tell more about that.

The next day, I was surprised that I didn't feel tired though I didn't sleep for a long time. Besides I slept well and in fact beat the alarm in the morning. The moment the japanese friend saw me, he who knew that I was usually a bad sleeper was also extremely surprised at my deed and then he told me he would like to join the class right now but after a short time, he said,"Sorry, it was just kidding". I just answered,"ok". )-:

If you want to become YMCA member, you must pay Merbership Fee and then you can enjoy everything you can there. I wanted to join another class too but I didn't have enough time.

Best Buy- Customer Service Policies

Last Friday, I went to the Eaton Centre's Best Buy to ask them about their customer service policies. In there, I had to wait a few minutes to talk with a vendor because all of they were occupied with a client, after that time I talked with one of they and the vendor referred to me to a woman who was the Representative of Best Buy for all the cases of refund and exchanges products, I asked her if she could have a conversation with me about their policies and she answered that she didn’t have problem to help me.

At the beginning of the conversation with the Best Buy's representative, I asked her about their return, refund and exchanges policies, she responded to me that the customer must show the original receipt and a valid ID for all returns, exchange and warranty service. She also said that they had two different policies depend of the products.

The first kind of products were the computer, printers, cameras, A/C and DVD players that have 14 days from the date of purchase to make returns and exchanges. And the rest of their merchandise, they accepted returns and exchange 30 days from the date of purchase.

In the second part of the conversation, I asked her about a buyers insurance that the could be offered to protect any purchase from defect or damage, she responded to me that the customer could buy a Product Replacement Plan that give them a two years coverage of full replacement warranty and the cost depends of the product price.

The conversation finished when she brought me material which explains all the terms and conditions of their policies and replacement plans that Best Buy offer to their clients.

Finally, I want to express my surprise for the politeness of the representative who always was interested to bring me all the information.

Angel Bracho
I decided to know all about order online. If I bought online, how can I return a purchase my order? Actually we can buy everything online: books, computers, clothes, medicine, fruits and marriage services!

In my opinion you must have to be careful online. Please don't bay everything because some items cannot be returned. If you decided to find someone in the internet, have a date, meet and discovery that's not the best way, you just have to break up, don't return and try to find another love!

I love shopping and sometimes I do it online too. All sites have an area about policies and I visited http://www.hbc.com/bay/welcome.asp?content=flash to find THE BAY's policies. First of all, if you bought something online, you can return to any Bay or by mail. It's so different because if I bought something online is because I don't have time or because it's cheaper.

I think that people who only bay in the internet don't like to go to a store and see people so they have to return by mail. The policy is if you are not satisfied with your order, you are welcome to return it within 30 days of receipt but some items cannot be returned: ( for example: Gift Certificates , Hbc Gift Cards and Intimate apparel - for hygienic reasons- It's good!).

In my opinion this company have a good policy and protect clients

Customer Service

When you buy clothes, you think the clothes are the best at that time. clerks are sometimes recommending clothes so you think they are nice wear. I like to shop alone so I don’t like clerks suggestions. when you go back home and try it on, you sometimes notice that the one are not good enough, stained, torn or problems like that. I suppose it is because of the suggestion. Nobody likes wearing clothes which they don’t like. You would like to be able to return or get a refund. I think some people already have experiences like this. there are some rules about refund and return so we must be careful about return policies. I would like to present about Holt Renfrew return policies.

I went Holt Renfrew which is one of the exclusive shops in Toronto. I asked the information desk about their customer service policies. Holt Renfrew merchadise may be returned for exchange or refund within 28 days with the receipts. If you don’t have the receipts, the store will refund the product for the last known sale prices. I asked them if the clothe I bought 1 week ago had a stain on it, would you refund the one even if I worn the one once? They answered that it might be refunded if you were sure that the stain was not putted by yourself. However there is no evidence so even though you putted stain on it, the store will refund it.

Most clothes are cheaper than cars, laptops, or any electro devices but clothes are necessary to live. I mean, we are always wearing any kind clothes so you ought to satisfy what you buy. I also went two stores which are selling clothes. These stores have similar return policies to Holt Renfrew. What I am telling all of you is that you must buy clothes carefully and if you would return it, you had to do it as soon as possible.

I love shopping!!

My favorite store in Toronto is MAC. Do you know MAC? Of course everyone knows MAC. It is a famous cosmetic store in Canada. I love cosmetics that's why I chose the store.

Last friday, I went to a MAC store in front of our school. There were 7 shop staff and they looked very friendly. A pretty shop staff told me if I needed help,I could ask her anytime. I told her that I was looking for an eyeshadow which suited me. She said to me that my skin matched all colors they had. I was really happy to hear that.

I tried a brown one and I asked her that if I wanted to return their merchandise,I could return or refund it. She answered that if I wanted to exchange or refund their merchandise,I had to keep their receipts and go to the MAC stores within 30 days.

I also asked her if I had a allergy after I used their merchandise or if I found some defective,I could refund them. She answered carefully that these cases depended on the situation. If I had any allergy or the merchandise was defective,I could come their store and talk with their maneger about the situation first, and then they would decide to refund or not.

She kindly wrote down the key words and handed the paper to me. Finally,I selected a 4 palette eyeshadow which she recommended. I love it and use it everyday.

Customer Service Policy of "The Source"

Customer Service is a major important part of IT product service when consumers are surveyed. That's the topic I want to talk about. I went to an electric appliance store with classmates in Eaton Centre on Friday, the store is named The Source. I tried to know something about the customer service & refund policy of their company, and the course is listed as below.

First of all, I decided to visit a computer shop. My teacher had asked us to prepare some questions for the journal in the beginning. After that we getting went to the Eaton Centre. We took a walk in the big mall, and find out an electric product store The Source. When we just enter the sotre, an clerk came to us quickly and want to introduce something. It seemed not to be so bad, I thought. I opened my notebook to check my questions and want to take some notes during the conversation. Suddenly, he asked us:Is this a research or project for school? Yes! It's a academic research for school. We said. Sorry, I can't do that because of company policy, sorry I can't help you guys! He denied for our inquiry. Actually, I got shock at that moment because of his attitude. After that, I decided to change another way to get answer.I should inquire things to let clerk believe I really want to buy something from their store, not just a academic research.

Fortunately, another The Source branch appears in my eyes, and I know how to do it now. I hided my notebook and enter the store, took some time to look at detail information of two Desktop systems(one HP and one Acer), then one clerk came up and asked me if he could help me. Are you interested in Desktop? He said. Yes, I want to buy a Desktop system, could you please introduce this two systems for me? I said. Of course, what do you want to know? He answered. From now on, I'm going to get my answers.

Could I get refund or return if there're some issues occurred in this Desktop? I asked. And the clerk said:If there're any hardware concern, you could get refund or return within fifteen days after you buy the Desktop. Basically, it won't have problems after you use it over fifteen days. However, we provide one year guarantee to repair your computer for free with HP desktop. Now I've a question about coverage of guarantee, the clerk just said hardware concern, how about software issue? The Clerk answered: We can't guarantee for your software, because there're too many kinds of programs in operation system. Sometimes operation system would be crashed because of conflict or other reasons, that's not issue of our product.

Do you have extra insurance for the Desktop? I asked again and want to know some further information. Yes! If you want to extend the guarantee period, just need to pay an extra fee one hunderd and seventy dollars, then the guarantee period would be extended to three years. The clerk answered quickly. Do you need receipt or anything else if I want to get refund? I asked again. Basically, you just need to take your receipt and Desktop within the guarantee period. He said.

How many repair centres does HP and Acer have in Toronto? I was wondering and want to know. You don't need to know about repair centre if you want to choose HP Desktop, because we would do the repair service for you. But the same situation in case of Acer Desktop, you have to deliver the computer to their repair centre by yourself. You can find out the detail information on Website. The clerk said. Do I have to pay the delivery fee of Acer Desktop? I was thinking, and here is his answer. Yes, Acer doesn't provide free delivery service, so you can consider about that. However, the price of Acer Desktop is cheaper. Do they have customer service number or 1800 number? I said. I think you also can find it out on Website. Seemed he didn't know the answer. What method of payments do you accept, and how about monthly payments plan? I want to finish the conversation. You can use cash, credit card, or traveler's check in our store. Of course, we have monthly payments plan. Finally he said.

There were many consumers in store when I was doing this homework. So I said thanks to the clerk and told him I will consider about that!, then I left the store to finish this journal. Briefly, no matter clerk attitude or customer service policy, the second one branch of The Source is a good choice if you want to buy some IT product in Toronto.

Customer service of Sony Co.

When I got a homework from Mark, I thought how should I do homework. I decided to do homework with school friends. I went to Eaton center in toronto on friday. There were many stores.

First, I went to electronic shop, I forgot the name. Anyway I asked manager some questions about refund, change, warranty systems. And suddenly he asked me “Do you research in our policy for your school?”
The moment he heard to say “yes”, he denied to help us. He told me he can,t tell me anything about the store policy. I was looking for electric shops, and I found Sony Co. I asked manager refund, change, insurance system. He answered all questions very kindly.

He said that I could refund opr exchange for a new one after 30 days. If it is broken, you can fix it in free for 1year. Every products have insurance period for 1 year. You must remind that it is valid just in Canada. If it is broken when you left Canada, you have to pay money and fix your profuct in other stores. When you find some problems, you don’t need to go other stores. It is possible to fix, change products in our store. Please bring our store broken product, and than we’ll take over Sony Co. Sony Co. come to our store once a week because of taking over broken products.

I think it is nice shop for Canadian not for me. Global students including me live in Canada short time. If products are broken when we left Canada , we don,t have a way to fix it in free.
I hope that all stores in Canada have global service system.

Fido - Customer Service

When I said I wanted to buy a new cell phone and asked how can I making my new cell phone to my homestay family, thankfully my homestay mother suggested to give me her second-hand phone. She said that when I use it, it's better than I buying new one, because it was more cheap. I thought so and I got her phone. I thanked about her kindness.

I went to Fido store that located in Eaton Center to open a line. when I tried to make a line, there was some problems. My phone was a locked Roger's phone. when I checked phone, it didn't work well. A manager told me if I unlock and repair my cell phone, I can use it in Fido. If I want for that, I had to look for another repair shop for dissolving lock, because that store didn't do that kind of work. I didn't want it. I asked about the way to buy a new cell phone which has prepaid system, and asked about the customer service policy.

The manager recommended a phone. That cell phone's cost was $90. It included $25 of local prepaid airtime, but I needed additional $30 for buying sim card. I could return, refund, or exchange when I had any problem within the 15-day period. Whan I refund it, I couldn't receive $25 of prepaid airtime fee. It was bad news. I needed proof of purchase like contract or receipt when I refund or exchange it, and for return, cell phone had to be undamaged from me. If I put cell phone in the water, or broke it through drop, I couldn't refund or exchange it.

I asked about warranties. She said that I will have 1 year warrant period. During that time, I could replace my cell phone for free. I could repair or exchange it. In Toronto, only Fido flagship store which is in the Eaton center had repair shop. If I want to repair my cell phone, I could visit that store. I asked the telephone number for asking something to solve curiosity. She taught me store's telephone number(416- 597-1436), and address of Fido internet site(http://www.fido.ca/).

I needed more time to think to buy, and I needed more information of second-hand cell phone that my homestay mother gave me. I decided to buy cell phone at next time. It was very interesting exprience, because it was first time to gain some detailed information about product from foreiginer manager. I satisfied it.

My bitter experience

I went to the Eaton Center with my friends. It was my first time. I wanted to buy mp3 player so that I went to electronic shop. Frankly, speaking I have already had my mp3 player but now it didn't work right. Even I couldn't turn it on but I can't fix it because it is made in Korea. I sent e-mail to the company. After one day I received a mail about my complaing. The company gave me an information about the problem but it doesn't work till now.

When I went the electronics shop at the center, I wanted to buy a reliable mp3. Although, it was very expensive, it didn't matter to me. I just wanted to use it for a long time so that I chose creative product. I had heard the company is famous for a product about music. I asked the clerk somthing about the service of customer which was important for me. When I asked her about it, she said,"If you want to refund or return, you have to visit our store within 30days." and I asked if the proplem continues then, I can refund it. She said it is possible if the proplem was continuous and they couldn't fix it. In addition, she told me that if I wanted more time about the term of guarantee, I had to pay more money. It is different with Korea.

Eventually, I bought it. When I decided to buy it, I asked her that I can check it on the spot. She smiled to see me. She said I found any fault, she could change another one. She told me not to worry. At that time I could be satisfied. After shopping I went back home and I cheked the price at the website of the company. Oh my!! The price was cheaper than I bought. I couldn't go to bed because of the price.

Needs to be

If something is a necessity, you must have it or do it, or it must happen. In a sense this is a kind of modal.

If you saw the terrible conditions in which these people are living, you would appreciate the necessity to step up foreign aid. Something needs to be done soon, to help these poor people.

For anyone who is running a large company, a computer specialist is absolutely necessary to keep business running smoothly. Every large company needs a computer guy.

In affirmative sentences, uses need to do something (WITH "to"):

I do not understand their need to sell the house. They need to sell quickly because they have already bought another house. This house definitely needs to be sold quickly.

My First Job

Before I graduated I was really worried about get my first job. In Brazil is very difficult to get a good job, especially, when you are young. The big companies usually ask about job experience and good English skills. At that moment I was not confident about my potential.

Once I was talking with my friend and he gave me an excellent recommendation. He told me that the best way to get a job was starting as a trainee. First I needed to be prepared in three important ways: 1) Business skills, 2) Knowledge about the company's history and 3) Good English skills.

After this conversation, I realized that I needed to improve my English skills. I talked with my father and we realized that the best way to improve my English was studying abroad. During my summer vacation, I went to USA to study. I studied there for 2 months.

By the time I returned to Brazil, I felt that I was prepared to get my first job. I read some companies history and signed up in their annual selection. When I did the selection process, I felt that it was very difficult but I was confident.

After a week one of the companies called me and said that I was selected. At that moment I felt very happy because I knew that I had reached my first target. After one year working very hard I was hired for the company. At that moment I became more mature and totally independent.
