What Do You Want to Learn in Toronto? by Karl

What do you want to learn in Toronto ?

At first, when I got this topic, I thought about three subjects. My presentation paper has three chapters. The first chapter is about Kendo. It has some information and my own opinion about “How you can learn to play Kendo?” or “How can you improve your Kendo skills?”

Second chapter is about Ice-Hockey.
Third chapter is about skating. Also, second and third chapter have some information about each topic and other people’s advice.

1. Kendo

Before I talk about this subject I like to mention a few things to you. When I was high school student I practiced Kendo. When I took this topic immediately I thought this because I will stay in Canada for a long time and I have to study very hard. Frankly speaking these days, I am not in very good shape. I think I need exercise more.

I decided to look forinformation in newspapers, magazines and on the internet. I didn’t find information about private or public institute but I did find a club in Toronto. The club is called the Toronto Kendo Club. It is located on St. Clair Ave. They practice Kendo in Joseph J. Piccininni Centre two times a week.

If I want to become a member I can join in January, April or September. I have to pay even though it is a club.

1) Practice schedule
Tuesday (beginner) : 7:00pm ~ 8:30 pm
Saturday (advance) : 10:00am ~ 2:00 am
Saturday (beginner) : 2:00pm ~ 3:30 pm

2) Fees
For a 12 week program = $75.00
For a 9 week program = $56.00
Membership fee = $420.00/year and $210/Bi-year each year

l If you want to get more information you will visit this site.

l I haven’t joined their practice yet so, after I join the practice, I will add to
other information and picture.

3) My opinion (How can you improve your skill?)

(1) Attitude

If you want to practice Kendo you should have perseverance because Kendo has just
three skills. You practice three skills everyday in a same way. For the first three months you
won’t be in interesting you just will feel so boring. Almost all people (who give up practice
Kendo) will give up in three months. But if you will be skilled this basic technique you can
do variety skills and more complicated techniques.
“Do not hurry.” “Be patient.”

(2) Way of improve your skills

First, you have to practice basic skills everyday.

Second, before you start to practice you will have the time for calm down.
(For example, meditation or just think about yourself or trying to throw away your avarice.)

Third, when you have a competition, you have to respect to competitor and trying to be modesty. Because, if you are over self-confidence you can’t win the game.

Forth, when you are practicing alone, you will imagine the competitor in your mind.

2. Ice-Hockey

My second choice is Ice-hockey. It is a very famous sport in Canada and look so spectacle. And the other reason is it’s too difficult even if I want to learn Hockey in Korea. When I went to Hockey court for seeing the game, I asked some question to employee on last Sunday. They have some programs but just for children. I was trying to find other information and I found some private teaching course but that’s too expensive. After I confirmed the cost, instantly I gave up join them.

1) Commander Park Arena’s Hockey school time & fees.
l Team class
9:00am ~10am (per class) = $375.00
l Individual class
Tuesday : 6:00pm ~ 10:00pm , Sunday : 9:00am ~ 2:00pm
(45Min = $30.00, 5Lesson = $140.00, 10Lesson = $250.00)

3. Skating

My last choice is skating. Because of skating is most popular sport in Canada.
And lot of Canadian friends recommended me. “If you just buy skate, it is free to use ice-rink. And it is possible to practice yourself”
And they add advice to me. “You should throw away your fear. You just enjoy skating, do not concentrate skills”
Meaning is you won’t be afraid of a fall on your backside on the ice and just enjoy your feeling.
So I searched skate price and finally I decided to buy skate and I will practice myself.
